I’ve been interested for some time in making skin care products at home with ingredients I understand and, sometimes, even eat. It started with white clay and oatmeal face mask that made the rounds at Christmas and extended to after-shave for my partner, brother and dad. My latest experiment is this fresh, citrusy body scrub which I adapted from this recipe.
Lemon Lime Body Scrub
1/2 C. Epsom Salts
Scant 1/2 C. Coconut Oil (food grade)
1/2 tsp Distilled Witch Hazel
1/2 tsp each Lemon and Lime Zest
Mix all ingredients and store in a container with a good lid – mason jars work well and are perfect gift packaging when tied up with a nice ribbon and tag!
You could further adapt this recipe by switching up the oils or salt for sea salt or brown sugar or by adding in a few drops of other essential oils. I added the witch hazel as I’ve just returned from a trip to the cottage in black fly season and needed some itch relief. It can also soothe skin that’s been a little sunburned. Give this one a try or create your own and let me know how it goes!
